Back to Stories - Finding Strength Through Support: A Story from a Probationary Employee
One of our CDC Mutual Aid recipients began their CDC journey as a student in the 1990s. They built a long and diverse career, including roles in laboratory assistance, international travel coordination and management consulting. Their efforts ensured that everyone, from managing travel logistics to streamlining administrative processes, had the support they needed, making typically complex processes seamless. "I was able to give people peace of mind and show them that they didn’t have to worry," they shared, recalling a moment when their work was deeply appreciated.
However, their journey took an unexpected turn in February 2025 when they were let go as part of a probationary group, leaving them facing significant uncertainty. When their unemployment was delayed and their mortgage forbearance fell through, the financial support they received from the CDC Mutual Aid provided them with much-needed relief. The funds helped them stay afloat during a critical period, allowing them to focus on getting back on their feet. Now with deep gratitude and renewed strength, they are determined to give back as a donor in hopes of helping others obtain the same support and peace of mind they experienced.
“Find your second wind and know you’re not alone"
Despite feeling lost at times, they were able to regain their footing, thanks in part to the financial assistance provided by the CDC Mutual Aid during a difficult period. "Your team’s compassion gave me the breath I needed to keep going,” they said.
