Back to Stories - Finding Strength Through Support: A Story from a Probationary Employee
Susan worked at CDC for over 20 years in different capacities providing administrative support and serving as a contracting officer to numerous programs. Her behind the scenes work facilitated CDC’s scientists to provide vital information to the American people.
Susan received a termination notice in February. Initially, Susan hesitated to apply for support from the CDC Mutual Aid, even though she really needed it, because she selflessly believed others might need it more than she did. But as the months moved forward, mortgage and insurance costs continued and unemployment ran out. After applying to CDC Mutual Aid Network, she received funds to help pay her bills and resources, like financial planning. The website had a whole list of resources, which were very helpful.
When asked about her experience with CDC Mutual Aid Fund, she said:
“I want people to know that there is help out there. There are people you can speak to. There’s a lot of resources that can guide you to helpful resources. Just don’t give up. Keep striving even though it is very very hard.“
